Favorite Books for Primary Passion Projects

Passion Projects encourage individuals to ask questions, pursue personal interests, research, and CREATE something to showcase their new knowledge. Today, I will be sharing some of my favorite books that can help promote questioning and inquiry in the classroom. Some students have difficulty with picking a topic to research for their passion project. This is completely normal! Sometimes there is too much to think about when trying to pick one topic to research. What I really like about all of these books is that they present information in a question based format. Each book is about a particular topic and it has questions about the topic within the book. This can be a great way for students to find a question that interests them, read a little bit about it, and encourage them research more to answer the question. Without further ado, here are the books I recommend!

I Wonder Why books are readily avaiable on Amazon. Books in this series cover several science concepts, historical questions, and animals. These books are appropriate for second grade. The text is slightly larger and questions are answered in a single paragraph format. Click the link below to find them on Amazon. 

Ask Me Why books are great for second graders. I found most of these books in a local thrift store. They are not as available on Amazon, however you might have better luck finding them through a used book website such as Thriftbooks or Abebooks. Click the link to go to Thriftbooks. 

Out of all the series I'm sharing, 100 Things You Should Know, is the series that is higher than second grade reading level. I would say it is more of a third grade reading level. They cover a lot more information and the text is smaller. I still had many students who enjoyed reading these throughout the year. Click the link below to find them on Amazon.
